Tuesday June 27th
Today in math we will be reviewing multi-step inequalities with a relay race.

If we finish early you may use the remainder of time to work on your portfolios or get more practice with the following graphing activity:

Thursday June 22nd
In math today we will continue to look at linear functions with multiple variables.

We will practice graphing and working with word problems to write equations.

Once you have finished the sheet from class, please begin work on Inv. 3.2:




Wednesday June 21st
In math today we will look at the difference between linear equations in slope intercept form and standard form.

We will start with a warm up, do an active activity to pair these two forms, and then work on some practice.

If you finish the practice early please work on the inequality graphing activity from yesterday:

For math today you will be working on the following investigation independently:

Tuesday June 13th
Today in math we will continue our look into inequalities.

We will look at multiple scenarios and strategies to use to help you solve them.

Please take good notes during the warm-up and complete the handout from class to the best of your ability.

For math today we will be working with investigation 2.3

If the whole class works well on the investigation we will finish class with a few rounds of 24.

In math today we will be looking at a review of our unit.

We will be doing another algebra relay race

Then we will use some of the techniques we've looked at to help solve a puzzle.

Thursday May 11th
For math today we will be continuing our work with the handout from yesterday.

Once we have completed and reviewed both activities (Hamburger & Pokemon Go) we will take a look at investigation 3.4 together.




Wednesday May 10th
Today in math we will continue our review/work with quadratic formulas.

We will look over 3.3 from yesterday and explore how to find a quadratic's solutions.

For math today we will continue our review of solving linear and quadratic equations.

Thursday April 20th
Today in math we will begin by completing our quadrant graphs in our groups.

We will also be working in partners on a hands on activity related to area and proportions.

Homework: Complete the hand out from class.

Wednesday April 19th
In math today we will be finishing our growth mindset brains.

We will read over the following article together:
Math Growth Mindset

Then we will begin looking at 4 quadrant graphs and practice reading non-specific values.

In your groups look over the following graph and answer the question together:


In addition to the questions on the document please consider the following questions:

1. Do you agree with the results recorded in the graph?
2. If not what would you change?
3. Is it important assign values (numbers) to the axis'? Why or why not?

Once you have had a chance to analyze the sample graph, you and your group members will create a similar graph based on subject of your choosing.

The requirements for you graph are:

• Must have 4 quadrants
• Must be properly labelled
• Negative and positive values should be related
• Need at least 10 distinct coordinate points (emojis, activities, etc)
• Be neat and organized

Tuesday April 18th
WELCOME BACK!

Today for math we will be completing a fun exercise together as a class as a way to warm our math brains back up.

We will also look at what it means to have a growth mindset in math and explore our own mindsets.


Wednesday March 22nd
For math today we will be reviewing: how to find a parabola's vertex, how to find it's x intercepts, and looking at patterns of quadratic tables.

After the warm up, please complete investigation 4.3:




Friday March 17th
Today in math we will:

1. Start with a little game of 24.
2. Go over the info covered in your online activity
3. Complete the graph/equation matching assignment.
4. Start investigation 4.3

Thursday March 16th
In math today we will work to complete the assignment we started yesterday.

Please open the link and resume your work.
X-Intercepts Of Quadratics

We will then look at finding x-intercepts together and match some functions to their correct graph.


Wednesday March 15th
Today in math we will be reviewing how to put a quadratic function in factor form as well as how to find the vertex and y-intercept.

We will then move on to looking at how to find the x-intercepts of a graphed quadratic function (parabola).

Tuesday March 14th
For math today we will be looking a little deeper into our "handshake model" from Friday as a way to represent quadratics.

We will also look further into the shape and behavior of a parabola through examples of a sports ball's trajectory.

Today for math we will be:

• Playing 24
• Reviewing Investigation 3.1
• Model a quadratic relationship in the class

Thursday March 9th
In math today we will be reviewing quadratic graph function. (Shape, Axis of symmetry, Vertex, etc.)

Then we will move on to looking at patterns in quadratic tables and will compare those patterns to what we know about linear and exponential patterns.

Tuesday March 7th
Today in math we will be looking at quadratic equations both in expanded and factored form.

Our goal will be to complete investigation 2.4 during class:

Thursday March 2nd
Today in math we will finish our notes on quadratic functions from yesterday.

After we have completed the notes you should work on finishing Inv. 2.1

Wednesday March 1st
In math today we will be looking further into quadratic functions.

We will practice graphing some quadratic functions and will also look at the standard equation and break it down into it's parts.

Today in math we will be reviewing 1.1 investigation from yesterday.

We will look at graphing a new type of relationship called a quadratic.

For math today we will go over what is going to be on our quiz next week. I will give you an overview and allow you to ask any questions or practice specific skills.

Today in math we will be:

• Reviewing graphing and Inv. 5.3
• Discussing what will be on our upcoming quiz
• Having a practice "partners quiz" to prepare

In math today we will looking over our findings from 5.2.

Math Olympics Today!

For math today we will continue our work with exponents and looking for patterns.

We will review our work on investigation 5.1.

After you will have the option to either:

• Work in Khan Academy on: Exponential and Logarithmic Functions
• Begin work on Investigation 5.2

Today in math we will be:

• Finishing our posters we started on Friday.
• Presenting our posters.
• Looking briefly over the homework from the weekend
• Beginning investigation 5.1 (looking for patterns with exponents

In math today we will be taking a look at any questions you had from Investigation 4.2

We will then continue our work with exponential decay with Investigation 4.3:


Tuesday Jan. 31st
Today in math you will be handing in your dream payment project (if you haven't already). We will briefly discuss the project and review simple vs compound interest.

We will then make sure everyone is signed up for Khan Academy.
You should have all received an invitation via e-mail. If you didn't please let me know.

Once everyone has established their Khan Academy accounts you will be working on Investigation 4.2.

Homework: Finish Investigation 4.2


If you finish 4.2 early your options are:

• Choose an extra practice sheet to work on
• Explore Khan Academy and complete any of the 8th grade subjects.

Thursday Jan. 26th
Today we will continue working on our dream payments mini-project.

If you finish yours early you may begin on Investigation 4.2:

Today in math we will continue our work with exponential numbers by looking further into compound interest.

Thursday Jan. 19th.
Today we will be working with 2 different types of interest rates to see how money grows when we save it.
We will look at:

• Simple interest- Money increases by percent of initial value each year - Linear
• Compound interest - Money increase by percent of current value each year - Exponential growth

Wednesday Jan. 18th
For math today we will be:

• Reviewing parts of investigation 3.1
• Comparing Growth Factor and Growth Rate
• Working a little more with scientific notation.
• Beginning investigation 3.2

Tuesday Jan. 17th
In math today we will be comparing and contrasting linear and exponential relationships. Please refer to the hand out and class instructions for this activity.

We will also begin work on Investigation 3.1.

Today in math we will start with some 24, look at using scientific notation for really small numbers, and work on investigation 2.3:

For math today everyone should have the "last man standing" activity done and turned in by the end of the period.

We will be looking deeper at graphing exponential relations with the following link (if the internet works):

Wednesday Jan. 11th
In math today Profe Luis will be working with the Math Olympic students. All Math Olympic students are responsible for any work they miss. Including completing the "Last Man Standing" activity from yesterday.



Tuesday Jan. 10th
Today in math we will watch a video discuss some ways that we can ALL be successful in math.

We will also review our zombie packets from last week and continue our exploration into exponential relationships with a hands on activity.

Friday Jan. 6th
Today in math we will review our work from earlier in the week and continue practice on exponents and exponential growth.

Please make sure your Chess game assignment is completed and turned in by the end of the period.

Today we will go over the quiz from yesterday and continue working on our "Linear Relationships: IRL" packets.

Today we reviewed for the quiz. For the quiz on Tuesday you must be able to:

• Put an equation into Function Form (Y=mX+b)
• Identify slope and y-intercept of a function's line.
• Graph a Linear Function
• Tell if a point is part of a functions line
• Find the point of interception for two linear functions

Wednesday, Sept. 14th
We will continue to look at point of intersection today, with a review of some questions from last nights homework. Through our review will work on coming up with an algorithm to solve these types of problems as well.

Today we will also start a project to tie what we've learned about linear functions to an interest in our lives. Everyone will receive a physical copy of the project, but below is a digital copy in case you misplace it, or for your reference.
